10 Tools to Tell What’s Hot Today on Google

10 Tools to Tell What’s Hot Today on Google
Are you afraid that you’re missing out on an important event? Concerned that you won’t know what’s being discussed around the water cooler tomorrow? Worried that something is happening in the world right now that you don’t know anything about and that you’re missing out on some very lucrative keyword opportunities?
Worry no more!
Here is a list of 10 tools that will help you stay in the know—from hot keywords that searchers are using on Google to what’s trending on Twitter or Facebook and what’s going viral on YouTube this very moment. These tools will help you stay informed (and potentially fill you with useful information) day by day and even minute by minute. Never get left in the dark again!

1) Google Trends

Compare two or more keywords to see which has a higher search volume and how searches change over time. This is great for looking at seasonal terms, as well as the best time to start ramping up (or slowing down) your marketing efforts for any particular keyword phrase.

2) Google Trends Hot Searches

This displays a list of the top 20 searches for any given day. Click on any top keyword, and you’ll see a search volume index chart showing searcher interest over the past 24 hours. You’ll also see snippets of the top Google results for that keyword for news, blogs, and Web searches. Perfect for looking at upcoming trends that might provide ranking and traffic opportunities.

3) Google Trends for Websites

Enter in a URL and see what else that site’s visitors are searching for, along with other sites they have visited. This gives you a good dose of competitive intelligence and visitor engagement and interests.

4) Google Insights for Search

Compare search results by location or time ranges and filter by geographical locations, search type (products, news, and images), and even by categories. Compare and filter up to five terms at a time. While raw search volume numbers are helpful to select one term over another, this information can help you target each phrase based on the specific search market. When and where the searches are being performed can be valuable information for targeted ad delivery.

5) Wordtracker Top Keywords

This provides two lists of the top 500 most searched keywords within the last 48 hours and 365 days. Search volume for each phrase is provided as well. Another tool that is good for looking out for upcoming trends for you to capitalize on.

6) TweetStats

It features two charts that show what is trending on Twitter: one for today’s top 10 trends and another for currently trending. This information can help you get involved in the most important, vibrant, or talked about conversations of the day, opening up new avenues for networking and engagement.

7) Trendsmap

Want to know what people in your (or any) area are tweeting about? This shows trends based on geographical locations. Using this data, you can get in touch with local tweeters that share similar personal or business interests. Great local networking tool!

8) Like Button

Shows you what is being liked across the Internet right now. Filter by what is popular, news, entertainment, and much more. This is Facebook’s version of TweetStats, giving you a few more filtering options to narrow down your search to what is important to you or your business.

9) YouTube Trends Dashboard

The hottest videos on YouTube can be found on the Trends Dashboard. You can filter by location and age, sort by most shared or most viewed, and even compare how videos trend for different audiences. Not just for entertainment, these videos can also help you see what is catching people’s attention and what audience they most resonate with. Video demographic research!

10) BuzzFeed

Find out what content is getting socialized the most across the Web. View by category, drill down to the 20 most viral for the week, or see what’s just launching that’s making a buzz. This is another opportunity to see what people are talking about, what’s going viral, and to engage with the audience that’s most suited for your needs.

Neal Justin | TV's back

Neal Justin | TV's back

It's that time of the year when friends are less interested than usual about my health and family. The only question on their mind: How are the fall's new shows? The short but sour answer: Not very good. This rookie class is among the weakest in recent years, with cable reserving some of its best for summer and networks all but refusing to take bold chances.Visit Justin.TV

But all is not lost, thanks to a lineup of returning shows that should have you salivating about what's going to happen next. Here are 10 I'm particularly eager to get to know again.

"Boardwalk Empire": Nucky (Steve Buscemi) and company don't get the respect of TV's other cold-blooded dramas. Maybe the addition of Bobby Cannavale as a ruthless mob man will get viewers to invest a bigger stake. Season premiere: 8 p.m. Sunday, HBO

"Treme": This New Orleans-set drama doesn't have the relentless story lines of creator David Simon's masterpiece, "The Wire," but that's not really the goal. Like the city, this series is mostly about music and mood, both beautifully captured in the upcoming third season. 9 p.m. Sept. 23, HBO

"How I Met Your Mother": With the exception of "Community," no current network comedy has taken more chances -- and thrived to tell about it. Shaky contract negotiations and a steady movie career for Jason Segel suggest that this eighth season may be the last. Suit up! 7 p.m. Sept. 24, WCCO, Ch. 4
"Modern Family": Gloria (Sofia Vergara) is pregnant, a story line that promises to give birth to a new round of smart, sassy humor. Further proof that this show is a minor miracle: At least a half-dozen new comedies are copycats, but none comes close to this "Modern" miracle. 8 p.m. Sept. 26, KSTP, Ch. 5

"Revenge": I'm not a big fan of cheesy prime-time soaps, but even I couldn't help but get sucked into this seriously silly romp. The good news: Jennifer Jason Leigh joins the circus this season. The bad news: A move to an increasingly competitive Sunday-night slot could be murder in the ratings. 8 p.m. Sept. 30, KSTP, Ch. 5

"Dexter": Our favorite serial killer's secret is out, at least to his foul-mouthed sister, setting up another of those impossible predicaments that keep this six-year-old thriller fresh. Ray Stevenson, best known for "Rome," is the latest actor trying to replace John Lithgow as the creepiest villain ever. 8 p.m. Sept. 30, Showtime

"Homeland": Where does Carrie (Emmy front-runner Claire Danes) go after electroshock treatment? Where else but another case that seems destined to blow her mind? Nicholas (Damian Lewis) was supposed to be killed off last season, but producers wisely kept him alive, guaranteeing another compelling round of cat-and-mouse games. 9 p.m. Sept. 30, Showtime

"30 Rock": Most would agree that this Emmy-winning comedy is past its peak, but last season's live episode was among its finest. With just 13 episodes to go before calling it quits, Tina Fey and company are likely to go for broke. 7 p.m. Oct. 4, KARE, Ch. 11

"American Horror Story: Asylum": Co-creator Ryan Murphy gave us some of the scariest TV since the last season of "Roseanne." Can he do it again? He has a tendency to lose interest after the first season (see "Glee" and "Nip/Tuck"). But Jessica Lange is back, this time as a sadistic nun. Now who doesn't want to see that? 9 p.m. Oct. 17, FX

"Community": NBC's faith in this gutsy and often gut-busting comedy is so low that it fired the sitcom's uber-creative show runner, Dan Harmon, and transferred it to Friday's graveyard shift. Can the cast and writers continue to churn out creative laughs at its previous level? That may be the season's most provocative question. 7:30 p.m. Oct. 19, KARE, Ch. 11

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Manny Pacquiao

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Manny Pacquiao

What say's Should Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Manny Pacquiao leave Freddie Roach or not?
Freddie Roach was highly touted by the media as one of the best trainers in the world, he won many awards from multiple trainer of the year awards, and recently getting inducted into the boxing hall of fame but was all this praise too soon?

Did Roach get hyped up only to be exposed as a sub par trainer who doesn’t choose the right sparring partners or defensive strategy for his fighters? I believe so.

I was really high on Amir Khan, I felt he had the speed and the athleticism to really become a polished boxer, but in his recent fights he did more slugging and running than boxing. Khan shared a similar in and out style to Manny Pacquiao his stablemate at the Wild Card gym, but the problem was Khan didn’t have the chin that Pacquiao possesses or the power, and he paid the price of getting knocked out for using a similar style.

Roach is a good trainer, but lately he seems to be very repetitive on the mitts, just focusing on teaching his fighters to throw a lot of punches and moving out to the side, and his choice of sparring partners are baffling. Why would he pick flat footed sparring partners who have no defense and just come forward when preparing for slick boxers? I had wondered if Roach had just gotten lazy and caught up in his own news clippings and fame that he doesn’t bother studying tape or choosing proper sparring anymore? It seems that way.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. just lost a lop sided decision to Sergio Martinez, Chavez Jr. almost came back with a last minute knockout in the 12th round by dropping Martinez, but it was too little, too late, and Martinez got the rightful victory and thankfully wasn’t robbed on the cards like Pacquiao was against Timothy Bradley. Chavez Jr. didn’t have the right strategy going into the fight, he also didn’t spar slick boxers or runners, he had basic come forward sparring partners, why would you pick these sparring partners if you know the guy you are a fighting is a mover who fights backing up? Roach also picked nothing but brawling boxers for Manny Pacquiao when he fought Timothy Bradley, I think Roach even suggested that he didn’t worry about Bradley running because Bradley only knows how to fight one way and that is aggressive, well that shows me that Roach has no idea who Bradley is and didn’t do his homework because other trainers have said that Bradley can adjust and become very slick in fights, even the fans could tell you that after watching a few Timothy Bradley fights, Roach didn’t see it at all and a good trainer would have seen that Bradley would probably try and box backing up against Pacquiao. Roach should have hired nothing but fast, slick, boxers to spar Pacquiao and teach him to set traps and cut off the ring because Pacquiao is easy to counter when he lunges in.

Roach has had three chances to figure out Juan Manuel Marquez, and all three times he failed to deliver. If you can’t figure out Marquez, than that means you have no clue on how to help Manny Pacquiao against Marquez a fourth time. I noticed that Marquez doesn’t cover up at all, did Roach notice this? Other boxing trainers have noticed this, and Marquez will feint before punching making Manny cover up and once Manny drops his guard Marquez attacks and backs away after firing a combo. I think Pacquiao has the skills to beat Marquez, its just that he has hit a knowledge plateau with Freddie Roach, but out of loyalty he still stays with him at the expense of his career and legacy. Pacquiao hasn’t delivered an impressive performance in a while, and he hasn’t done much to figure out Marquez, maybe it’s time for a change in trainer.

Amir Khan just announced that he left Roach after he was knocked out by Danny Garcia, I strongly feel that Manny Pacquiao and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. after their losses should follow and find a trainer who has a defensive mind and can come up with good strategies and bring in the proper sparring partners to prepare them for their opponents style. Roach isn’t the only trainer out there, there are many trainers who are just as capable but don’t get the same recognition and praise from the media that Roach does.

Georges St-Pierre beats Carlos Condit

Georges St-Pierre beats Carlos Condit

UFC 154 results: Georges St-Pierre beats Carlos Condit, is open to possibility of facing Anderson Silva

MONTREAL -- After 19 months away, after surgery and rehabilitation, Georges St-Pierre found his way to his familiar spot on top of the world. The energized welterweight used his full arsenal of weapons and withstood one furious Carlos Condit barrage to unify the lineal and interim belts in an excellent performance.
St-Pierre was awarded the judges' decision by scores of 50-45, 50-45, 49-46.
The UFC 154 main event was short on neither drama nor performance, as the two fighters fought tooth and nail for 25 minutes.
While the scorecards look fairly lopsided, it was Condit who landed the fight's most devastating single strike when he floored St-Pierre with a left kick to the head in the third round.
Looking to capitalize on the opportunity, he quickly followed the champion to the ground and unleashed a torrent of blows, some landing, but St-Pierre was able to withstand the firepower and return to his feet.

"I thought I had it," Condit said afterward. "I was going to go in there and put leather on him. He did a good job of staying close to me."
St-Pierre said he never saw the kick coming because the vision in his right eye had been blurried in the previous round from a punch.
While Condit fought him to the final horn, it was his only real chance to finish as St-Pierre stifled his scramble attacks with his positional control and heavy dose of elbows. St-Pierre bloodied him with one of them, a cut that leaked for the rest of the bout. Meanwhile, St-Pierre left with a hematoma from the head kick.
Despite saying he did feel the ring rust involved with the long layoff, St-Pierre looked refreshed and had the same familiar, stellar timing that leads into his takedowns. He wasn't hesitant in engaging Condit (28-6) in the standup, either, landing several right crosses over the 25-minute outing.
According to FightMetric, he out-landed Condit 71-36 in significant strikes, took the challenger down seven times and passed his guard eight times.
"People talk about ring rust? I definitely know what it is now," he said. "Carlos gave me my toughest fight. He's an amazing martial artist."
It was the seventh straight title defense for St-Pierre (23-2).
Afterward, it didn't take long for talk to turn to the possibility of a St-Pierre super fight against middleweight champion Anderson Silva, who made the trip to Montreal to watch the bout in person. Earlier in the night, Silva voiced a hope that he would next square off with GSP.
"I know Anderson is here right now," St-Pierre said. "I was focusing on Carlos Condit 100 percent. I need to take some vacation and think about it to see where I put my career. I want to make the best decision for myself and the fans."
If St-Pierre goes for the mega-fight, it would likely take place in a stadium show, possibly in Brazil or Cowboys Stadium in the U.S. If he chooses to stay in the welterweight division, he could next be opposed by Johny Hendricks, who knocked out Martin Kampmann in the night's co-main event

Stanford football | Hogan stars

Stanford football | Hogan stars

Stanford football: Hogan stars — will he move up to No. 1?

Just like that, it would appear that Stanford has a new No. 1 quarterback.
Red-shirt freshman Kevin Hogan took over for starter Josh Nunes in the first quarter, when Stanford was nursing a 7-0 lead, and proceeded to lead a scoring explosion as the No. 15 Cardinal (7-2, 5-1 Pac-12) wrecked Colorado 48-0 in Boulder, Colo.
If coach David Shaw gives the starting job to Hogan, he would go directly into the fire with toughies Oregon State, Oregon and UCLA remaining on the schedule. The Oregon and UCLA games are on the road.
But on this day Hogan was excellent. Pumping a dose of energy in the attack, he completed 18 of 23 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed seven times for 48 yards with runs of 20 and 27 yards. Before he was benched, Nunes completed 3 of 5 passes for 23 yards; one of his passes should have been intercepted, but it was dropped by cornerback Yuri Wright.
Hogan entered the game on the final play of the first quarter and directed the Cardinal to touchdowns on all four of their possessions in the second quarter. Sure, Stanford had a field day because Colorado is a wretched team. But the Cardinal looked much crisper with Hogan behind the center.
Forced to respect Hogan’s threat as a runner, the defense left receivers more room. . Again, the Buffs (1-8, 1-5) are bad, but this wasn’t the case when Nunes was in there in the first quarter.
This was the second-quarter onslaught: Stepfan Taylor scored on a 26-yard run, Remound Wright on a 1-yard plunge, Zach Ertz on a 1-yard pass from Hogan and Taylor again on a 2-yard run. Ertz was wide open in the endzone on his TD after the defense was completely sucked in by the play-action fake. Hogan set up that touchdown with a 20-yard run and a 32-yard pass to Levine Toilolo.
On Hogan’s fifth drive, opening the second half, Stanford had to settle for a field goal. But on the next possession, Hogan directed a 77-yard drive that ended with a 19-yard TD pass to Toilolo. Many fans were heading to the exits at Folsom Field with more than five minutes left in the third quarter.  Finally, Hogan’s streak of guiding scorers ended when he was sacked on third down in the third quarter.
Safety Ed Reynolds scored on a 52-yard interception return in the first quarter, his fifth interception of the season and his second pick-six in two weeks. Stanford led at the half 35-0 and had a whopping 249-20 advantage in total yards. The Buffs had two first downs in the first half.
The Buffs didn’t get their third first down until late in the third quarter.
Brett Nottingham took over at quarterback in the fourth quarter. The Cardinal collected another field goal after the Buffs’  Gerald Thomas fumbled and Joe Hemschoot recovered at the Colorado 22. Even Robbie Picazo got a shot at quarterback before it was over.
